Q’STRAINT & Sure-Lok Sponsor TSD Roadeo 2019
Q’STRAINT/Sure-Lok were happy to once again sponsor the annual Transporting Students with Disabilities and Special Needs Conference (TSD) Roadeo last weekend in Frisco, Texas, where a Texas contingent took home first place. Logan Heckathorn and Stuart Stutzman of Plano ISD are the winners of the 2019 TSD Roadeo.
The roadeo took place at Frisco ISD and was hosted by Women in Transportation (WIT). The event drew competition from all over the country. Teams competed in various events and were judged based on their performance.
Bud Fears, Q’STRAINT/SURE-LOK, Midwest Regional Manager, and Trisha Nolen, Q’STRAINT/SURE-LOK Southern Regional Manager, shared the honor of announcing the winners at the banquet Saturday night. The winning team tallied an impressive 881 out of a possible 972 points – to capture their first TSD Roadeo championship.
Not Their First Rodeo
Heckathorn and Stutzman are not newcomers to the roadeo. The duo won the Texas state roadeo last year in Corpus Christi. The victory allowed them to qualify for their first-ever national roadeo competition. The team spent many hours after work and on weekends practicing for the competition. The winning team, who are both drivers for Plano ISD, credited the victory to lots of practice, team work and on-the-job experience.
“The whole purpose of the roadeo is to teach teamwork,” said Stutzman. “I think we work so well together as a team. And this makes us better.” The proud winners said they will defend their championship next year, when the TSD Conference returns to Frisco, March 20-25, 2020.
The Q’STRAINT Team
Trisha Nolen, Bud Fears and Joe Boyko of Q’STRAINT/Sure-Lok hosted a training for the roadeo contestants on Friday afternoon, to help them prepare for the next day’s competition. The Q’STRAINT team, with the help of Sandra Laxson and Roger Peterson of Buck’s Wheel, were also honored to be the judges for the wheelchair securement portion of the roadeo.
